Danger of fire (continues)
Agios Aimilianos, because of the heavy pine trees plantation, should be a region of “high risk” for fire. However, nothing is done. The situation worsens not only because of plots that remain full of rubbish but also due to many dead plants, bushes and branches on the sides of the roads.
A collection item!
...The fire hydrant seen in the photo, no matter how unbelievable it may seem, is situated in the corner of the streets Brouli & Katsarou in Agios Aimilianos.
It shows that there was some provision for fire safety and a water network that no longer exists...When infrastructures are completely destroyed and citizens continue to pay for non existent services, it is a total outrage!
This is the situation.
The club will put up a simple sign to remind owners of unclear plots or places with dense plantation that are situated next to houses, that it is their responsibility to keep them clear. If one of these plots catches fire, then the owner of a house will lose more than a few plants, he will lose his home and maybe more!
If the owner of a “high risk” plot continues to ignore the sign, each year there would be a new reminder.
Even the Municipality is a potential arsonist.
Precisely. Fire risk does not only come from the plot owners. As you can see from the photo, on the road of Bodosaki-Athanasiadi, north side. Trees that have not been pruned for years fall in the middle of the road and the side of the road has never been cleared by the Municipality’s’ special machine. Access for cars is made very difficult and it has become very dangerous for bikers who risk colliding with a branch.
Example of a cleared plot.
(photo on the left)
It is situated in Paulopoulou street. A similar clearing that takes place by a bulldozer could last up to three years, while some residents undertake the initiative to clear empty neighbouring plots, as seen in the photo below.
